Steve Kerr wears Harvard T-Shirt to show support against Donald Trump: “Way to stand up to the bully”

Golden State Warriors defeated the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday, but it was head coach Steve Kerr who stole attention at the post-match conference for his Harvard T-shirt. He, however, didn’t mince words and made his motive clear behind his choice of clothing. He fearlessly showed his support for Harvard University, which has opposed U.S. President Donald Trump’s interference in running the institution.
Revealing that the T-shirt was actually a gift, Kerr announced, “Tommy Amaker is a friend of mine, a Harvard coach, and he sent me the shirt. Actually, we practiced there in Boston in November. He gave me the shirt and it felt like a great day to wear it.”
Elaborating on the reason behind wearing the T-shirt, he said, “I believe in academic freedom. I think it's crucial for all of our institutions to be able to handle their own business the way they want to, and they should not be shaken down and told what to teach, what to say by our government. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard, but it's kind of par for the course right now. So, yes, this is me supporting Harvard. Way to go. Way to stand up to the bully.”

The Trump administration has asked Harvard to make several changes in how it functions, including discontinuing programs that promote inclusion and diversity, merit-based admission policies, and more. Harvard has been warned that it could lose its tax-exempt status for refusing to follow the new rules. This is not the first time Kerr has spoken out against Trump—he also campaigned for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris during the elections.
Kerr also addressed several questions about the Golden State Warriors. Reflecting on their crucial 121-116 victory over the Grizzlies in the play-in tournament, he remarked, “We desperately needed to win this game and get four days [of rest].”
