Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena vs. Randy Orton
John Cena will appear at the
WWE Backlash to defend his Undisputed WWE Championship title against Randy Orton, which he earned at WrestleMania 41 by defeating The American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes. This match was confirmed on the April 25, 2025 episode of SmackDown, when Orton confronted The Cenation Leader and threw a challenge for the title in Orton’s hometown St. Louis.
According to WWE, John Cena and Orton have a legendary rivalry, having faced each other 21 times in a wide variety of matches, including two Hell in a Cell Matches, a TLC Match, an “I Quit” Match, and more. In their battle, Cena is 13-7-1 against Orton in singles matches.
The duo was last spotted on an episode of SmackDown in 2017, when John Cena emerged victorious, and he has been winning the game since their last four matches together. It will be quite interesting to witness who will win the battle on May 10, 2025, in Missouri.
United States Champion Jacob Fatu vs. LA Knight vs. Damian Priest vs. Drew McIntyre (Fatal 4-Way match)
During the May 2nd edition of SmackDown, General Manager Nick Aldis first revealed that United States Champion Jacob Fatu would defend the title in a triple-threat match against Damian Priest and LA Knight.
Jacob Fatu wipes out LA Knight and Damian Priest: SmackDown highlights, May 2, 2025
According to
WWE, with several Superstars vying for an opportunity to challenge The Samoan Werewolf, Damian Priest caused a disqualification in LA Knight's No. 1 Contenders' match against Drew McIntyre. This continued chaos prompted WWE management to set up a Fatal 4-Way Match for the United States Championship on May 10.
Pat McAfee vs. Gunther
Pat McAfee and Gunther will lock horns at WWE Backlash after
Gunther attacked Michael Cole and McAfee on the April 21st edition of RAW. Following this incident, Gunther has faced major repercussions for his actions that he was heavily fined and suspended from appearing on WWE shows for an indefinite period.
However, it was turned down for an intense face-off at Backlash. Will The Ring General tear apart McAfee, or will WWE Backlash be the home of one of the biggest upsets in WWE history?
Women’s Intercontinental Champion Lyra Valkyria vs. Becky Lynch
On the April 29 episode of WWE Raw, Becky Lynch confirmed her heel turn by admitting she attacked Bayley before WrestleMania 41.
After calling
Lyra Valkyria a loser and taking credit for winning the Women's Intercontinental Championship title, Becky Lynch challenged her to a title match at Backlash. This heated rivalry led to the announcement of their match on May 10 in St. Louis.
