Revisiting when former NFL coordinator Eric Bieniemy revealed fury of Chiefs HC Andy Reid

NFL head coaches often face immense pressure, leading to visible frustration. Andy Reid, head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, showed anger towards offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy during a 2018 game over a critical play involving quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Bieniemy got caught up in Mahomes' impressive play, prompting Reid to remind him to focus on the next play.

Head coaches of the NFL get angry all the time. With being charged up and having to look after 53—yes, you heard us right, “53"—players, it's a little bit obvious to lose one’s temper. Bill Belichick, former head coach of the New England Patriots, got angry over the officials during the NFL games; former head coach Pete Carroll of the Seattle Seahawks was spotted complaining to officials during the NFL games, and former head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, Jim Harbaugh, was witnessed being angry from the sidelines during NFL games. So, being angry is a normal reaction for a head coach of an NFL team because they’re under tremendous pressure, and their position can at times be stressful for them.
The head coach’s job is to get their 53 players to win the game against another set of 53 players! Imagine fighting a war. That’s what it’s like on the NFL grass, and maybe that’s what happened with the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, Andy Reid. Reid was doing media rounds once again at the start of January 2025! At that time, Andy Reid projected his fury onto an NFL and UCLA coordinator named Eric Bieniemy over one of his famous Chiefs players, quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Eric Bieniemy said, “I got caught up in the moment just because it happened,” over quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ move

The former UCLA offensive coordinator, Eric Bieniemy, had an interview with NFL Insider Tom Pelissero. Tom wanted to find out Eric’s favorite play of NFL star Patrick Mahomes. Eric recalled a particular favorite play of Mahomes', which also was one of the incidents where he faced the fury of the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, Andy Reid.

Eric went on to illustrate the beautiful moment that occurred in the NFL in 2018:
“I told this one not too long ago on TV, and it still amazes me. It just blows my mind because right in the middle of a play, Patrick is scrambling to his left. We are playing against the Denver Broncos. It’s a critical third-down situation, and we got Von Miller. You know he was pretty fresh at that time. I think this is the 2018 season. And Pat is scrambling to his left.”

Miller got ahead of Mitch Schwartz and was just about to tackle Mahomes. But then, Mahomes did something no other than he could. With his left hand, he passed the ball to a wide receiver, completing the play for a first down. It was one of those moments that left everyone bewildered.
Even Eric got thrilled and admitted, “I got caught up in the moment just because it happened. But on top of that, I was trying to make sure that I could get the next play call because I was like, “Hey, did you guys see this?” and I am sitting there like, Coach Reid’s like, “Hey, you got to get the damn play in and call the play.” So I call the play and go back.”
That was the time when the head coach, Andy Reid, demonstrated his fury on former NFL & UCLA coordinator Eric Bieniemy over quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
