Emilia Romagna Grand Prix 2025 Qualifying results: Oscar Piastri wins pole, Verstappen secures second spot

Oscar Piastri of McLaren secured pole position at the Emilia Romagna Qualifying race, closely followed by Max Verstappen and George Russell. The session was marked by a dramatic crash involving Yuki Tsunoda, who thankfully emerged safe, and another incident with Franco Colapinto. Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc had a disappointing qualifying, failing to reach the top 10.

The top order continues to remain the same as the Emilia Romagna Qualifying race saw the most predictable winner in McLaren’s Oscar Piastri. He secured the pole position for the Sunday race. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen couldn’t take pole but came a close second. Mercedes’ George Russell ended third on the grid. However, it was Red Bull driver Yuki Tsunoda’s horrifying crash in Q1 that drew more attention due to the sheer intensity of the incident.

Oscar Piastri’s McLaren teammate Lando Norris finished fourth in the Imola Qualifying race. It was a pleasant surprise to see Williams’ Carlos Sainz leading in Q2 ahead of both the McLarens, but he ultimately ended in sixth position in Q3. Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso also looked strong in the order, securing fifth position. His teammate Lance Stroll ended eighth. Alex Albon finished in seventh position and Isack Hadjar was ninth. Pierre Gasly took the tenth spot on the grid.

Yuki Tsunoda, Franco Colapinto suffer Horrifying Crash in Q1

The most terrifying moment of the Qualifying race occurred when Red Bull driver Yuki Tsunoda suffered a horrific crash at the Villeneuve chicane at Turn 6, but he was able to exit the car and appeared safe. He was sent for a medical examination soon after. The Qualifying race resumed with 12 minutes left on the clock.
As Franco Colapinto suffered a similar crash at Turn 4, red flags were brought out again, and the race resumed only after the barriers were thoroughly checked. The crash wasn’t as dangerous as Tsunoda, and Colapinto was able to confirm via radio that he was okay.As the race resumed, Haas driver Oliver Bearman’s lap was not completed under green flag conditions and hence he was disqualified. As the Qualifying race came to an end, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc greeted the Ferrari fans on home ground, albeit in a low-profile manner, as they failed to finish in the top 10. Up next is the main Emilia Romagna Grand Prix which will be held in Imola on Sunday at 3 PM (local time) / 6:30 PM IST.
